HOW TO SETUP CONTIKI EMAIL -------------------------- The email client made available at http://c64web.com/contiki.html (Download: Contiki-2.1-unsupported-email-clent-c64) is a program that can send email (but cannot receive email). You must first make sure that the CONTIKI.CFG file is configured correctly to your network. Please go to http://cbm8bit.com/contiki/ and create this file and install it on the D64 image where the email client resides (if you haven't done so already). To navigate menu buttons and form fields in Contiki, use F5 and F7. Use F1 and F3 to navigate the menus at the top of the screen. When you first run the Contiki Email Client, you will be asked to provide some configuration settings. Enter your email address in the following format: USERNAME@DOMAINNAME.COM. Then find out your ISP's SMTP server (you may have to call them or look at their support website if you don't know what it is). Then you type it the appropriate field. If you find that the email client cannot send email later on, try putting in the IP address of the SMTP server (just opoen a terminal or cmd window and then PING the SMTP address) in this field. After you press OK, you can type in the email address of the person that you want to contact. Because of a bug with the current version (2.2.1 as of this writing) of the Contiki email client for the C64, you MUST enter the email address in the following format: USERNAME (SHIFT *) DOMAINNAME.COM The reason you have to do this is because the email program will convert the SHIFT * character into an @ symbol. If you were to type in the email address normally (with an @ symbol), the email program would convert the @ symbol to an apostrophe ('). You can also send a 'carbon copy' of the email to another address (personally, I just CC it to my own address) by typing it in the CC field. *** PLEASE NOTE: you only perform the preceding instruction regarding SHIFT * when writing an email message. You DO NOT do this when typing in the email address in the setup/configuration window! After this you do this, you can type in the Subject of the message followed by the Body. In the body, you are limited to the space that is shown on the screen. However, you can move around that very space by using the cursor keys so that you can modify previous lines that you have typed in. Please note that this version of Contiki Email does not supporting word wrapping, so you will have to press RETURN yourself after reaching the end of a line. After this, you can press the SEND button and if configured correctly, it should be sent successfully. You can use the X button to quit out of the Compose message window or the ERASE button to start a message over. If you need to go back to the configuration window just use F1 to run Setup again.
